Can you recall a time when you realised that you must do something to make you more fulfilled and juiced up?
Since you were in search of fulfilment, one fine day you stumble on the concept of “self-help”. It happened to me. I was 27 years old and I was working in a call centre in Bangalore. I was earning substantially but was not happy with job monotony, with no compelling vision for my life.
On 2nd November, I resigned and started my journey to seek fulfilment and came across the book titled, “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill lying on a bookshelf at Crossroad book store. Each page of the book was a revelation.
Through this book, Napoleon Hill brought me into his world of self-help. He shared stories of great entrepreneurs and ‘Laws’ that made them extremely successful and wealthy.
With the help of this book, I came to know a lot about habits of successful entrepreneurs. This book was the result of the analysis of lives of more than 500 wealthy entrepreneurs.
I was awestruck. I realised that if I made these entrepreneurs my role model, I can become rich and famous too.
I read this book more than 10 times because every morning it used to give me high level of positivity and motivation.
It laid down the foundation for me to work on myself. After this book, I read couple of other books like, “The Power of your Subconscious Mind”, “Rich Dad Poor Dad”,” The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People” and many more .
Reading became my morning ritual and it altered my belief, increased my confidence.
I wanted to be like those famous and successful people.
One day, I noted down the addictive habits of successful entrepreneurs and what follows below are the traits which make them immensely successful.
15 Powerful Habits of Successful Entrepreneurs
Here they are:
Habit 1: They always write their daily goals before going to bed.
Top entrepreneurs always plan before they act. They make their plan for the entire day keeping the outcome of the day in mind. Then they prioritize all the to-do list and just act according to the numbers assigned to the list of tasks.
Habit 2: They take care of their body, mind and soul.
Successful entrepreneurs know that health is their biggest asset. If they are healthy, they can work more and make more millions, and enjoy the process of making millions.
They always engage in some form of activities to keep themselves fit, healthy, energetic and vibrant. For their mental fitness they use different meditation techniques.
Habit 3: They practice visualisation.
They visualize their daily and lifelong goals every morning and every night. Before visualizing, they write their plans, goals or vision daily to become successful. This is the first thing they do in the morning to set themselves in momentum and also to keep themselves focussed.
Habit 4: They carry an attitude of gratitude.
I have learnt from successful people to be thankful and grateful to God for all I have achieved.
Successful people are always in the state of gratitude, and it appears to me that gratitude holds very high value in their thinking process. You know when you are in the state of gratitude, it uplifts you from any negative state you might be in.
It destroys scarcity of consciousness.
Habit 5: They practice personality development.
The habit of reading books, listening to audiobooks, attending workshops or seminars and learning new skills are common habit of almost all top entrepreneurs.
Habit 6: Building strong network of people.
Top achievers always live by the saying- “Your network IS your net worth”.
They make it a priority to have strong networks, both online and offline. They generally do it by collaboration, helping others, meeting people in social events and using social media, and with the help of their public relation executives.
Habit 7: Demanding more from self
According to top entrepreneurs, there is no alternative to hard work. They demand more from themselves than anyone else can.
Mark Cuban is an amazing guy and a great entrepreneur. He did not take any vacation for seven years when he was on his entrepreneur journey .That is the level of dedication all entrepreneurs show .They pay the price to be on top by demanding more from themselves than anyone else can think of.
Habit 8. Focus on solution rather than problem.
Whenever top entrepreneurs encounter challenges in their business or personal life, they always focus on the solution rather than the problem by asking quality questions.
Since questions have the power to direct our mind in a definite direction, it also alters the way we think and feel. If we ask disempowering questions, we will get disempowering answers.
Top entrepreneurs are excellent in asking quality questions. Hence, they are always in control of the situation.
Habit 9: Time is the most valued resource for them.
For all successful entrepreneurs, time always seems to be the most valued resource. Time is a finite resource for them and they are excellent in utilizing time by managing it properly to receive the best results.
Habit 10: Giving back to the society.
Contribution is the hallmark of extremely successful entrepreneurs. These people are really generous with their wealth.
Great personalities like Andrew Carnegie, Warren Buffet and Bill Gates have the habit of giving back to the world, to improve the lives of people.
Habit 11: Keeping a Journal to track their progress.
Almost all successful entrepreneurs keep journals to keep track of their progress, self-reflection, goal setting and learn from their failures.
They are able to keep track of their progress, set goals, reflect, and learn from their mistakes. They need a map to reach their goals and the journal acts as a map to accomplish great things in their life.
Habit 12: They Never Procrastinate or give any excuses.
“What is easy to do is also easy not to do.” – Jim Rohn
Top entrepreneurs are self-confident. Since they have high level of self-confidence, it makes them highly optimistic. They face their fears by not procrastinating.
People gravitate towards them naturally and they have positive people in their circle.
When we manifest fear in our life, we generally procrastinate. Successful people are different from common men.
The moment they identify their fear, they find ways to put it behind and take massive action. This helps them to focus more on action rather than fear.
Habit 13: Never take ‘No’ for an answer.
Successful entrepreneurs never take ‘NO’ for an answer. I remember reading about Henry Ford’s persistence in “Think and Grow Rich” to successfully launch the ‘T-Model car’.
Whenever his engineers used to come up to him and say, “it cannot be done”, Ford’s reply was –“Do it anyways”.
He never took ‘No’ from his engineers. His persistence created the automobile industry, which created millions of jobs globally.
I believe these people have very strong faith in their ideas. Faith is an emotion and it has the power to accomplish any difficult task with mathematical certainty.
Their faith is so strong that they never entertain ‘NO’ for anything.
Habit 14: They hire coaches.
Top entrepreneurs hire coaches, even though they are successful. The main reason they hire coaches is to see if anything is missing and identify their blind spots.
According to Arun Apte, CEO and founder of two bio-tech companies in India – PREMIER Biosoft and CloudLIMS.com.
“I hired a coach because I want and need accountability. I want to push myself — and that’s hard to do without someone holding me accountable. I want an outside perspective. I want to learn from people who’ve helped run dozens of companies, not just two, like me. My coach has worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs over the past 15 years. He’s seen companies come and go — he knows where to look for problems and he has a knack for knowing when I’m slacking off or what I’m avoiding. It’s like hiring a secret weapon.”
Habit 15: They always communicate effectively.
“The more elaborate our means of communication, the less we communicate.” — Joseph Priestley
Top entrepreneurs are excellent communicators. They have a habit to influence, people, media and even their own work force with their power of communication.
They know how and what message to send that can benefit their business, their customers and their employees. Negotiation comes under the same banner of effective communication.
According to me, effective communication is an art which can be learnt but must also be practiced in the field. You can only influence others when you can influence yourself and I think top entrepreneurs are excellent in doing this.
Since they are effective in communication, they influence everybody who come across.
I hope reading this piece has been informative and useful to you. If you want to become an entrepreneur, it is necessary to imbibe these powerful habits of successful entrepreneurs.
